Culinary Arts I

Culinary Arts I prepares students for gainful employment and/or entry into post secondary education in the food production and service industry. Content provides students the opportunity to acquire marketable skills by examining both the industry and its career opportunities. Laboratory experiences simulate commercial food production and service operations. Culinary Arts I is a prerequisite of Culinary Arts II. Integration of Family, Careers, and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA), greatly enhances the curriculum. Students are required to be in full uniform during labs and events. ProStart and ServSafe Certifications available for all students.

Culinary Arts II

Culinary Arts II is an advance level course that prepares the serious Culinary student for gainful employment and/or entry into post secondary education. Content provides students the opportunity to acquire marketable skills by examining both the industry and its career options. Students have opportunities to develop skills in workplace settings. Integration of the Family and Consumer Science student organization, Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America(FCCLA), greatly enhances the curriculum. Students are required to be in full uniform during labs and events. ProStart and ServSafe Certifications available for all students.

ProStart

     ProStart® is a nationwide, career-building program for high school students created by the National restaurant Association Educational Foundation and implemented in South Carolina by the South Carolina Restaurant and Lodging Education Foundation. The ProStart program develops the best and brightest talent into tomorrow's restaurant and hospitality industry leaders. From culinary techniques to management skills, ProStart's comprehensive curriculum provided real-world educational opportunities and builds practical, transferable skills and  a foundation that lasts a lifetime.

     Students learn in the classroom, gain experience working side-by-side with the industry's top professionals, and showcase their skills in  the state competition. 

     Student who receive qualifying scores on two National exams and complete 400 hours of industry work experience earn the ProStart National Certificate of Achievement and are well qualified to begin a career in hospitality or continue on to post-secondary training at more than 70 culinary arts and hospitality schools around the country.
